Group Stage

[format rules]
Match format: the coin-toss winner bans first, the coin-toss loser bans two disciplines, then the winner makes the final ban. The remaining discipline is played as one BO5. Four-player groups give each player three matches; three-player groups give each player two.

Official Regulations

[open simulator]
MKL Tournament RulebookRevision 1.1 / Final
  1. Official game versionsThe tournament uses Mortal Kombat — Arcade, Mortal Kombat II — Arcade, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 — Arcade standard version (WaveNet is not permitted), Mortal Kombat Trilogy — PlayStation, and Mortal Kombat 4 — Arcade, all emulated through Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.
  2. Match formatGroup Stage and every playoff match through the Lower Final use one discipline and one BO5 set, first to three game wins. Only the Super Final uses a multi-discipline series.
  3. Winner lockThe winner of a game must keep the same character for the next game in that discipline. The loser may change character, variation or Kameo where supported. A new discipline clears the lock for both players.
  4. Coin toss and standard BO5 vetoBefore every match through the Lower Final, a coin toss determines the veto order. The coin-toss winner bans one discipline, the loser bans two disciplines in succession, then the winner makes the fourth and final ban. The only discipline left is played as one BO5.
  5. Super Final picks and bracket resetThe Upper Bracket finalist has first pick and selects the opening discipline. The Lower Bracket finalist then bans two of the four remaining disciplines. The Upper Bracket finalist makes the last pick; the one discipline still unselected becomes the decider. The Super Final is BO3 across those three disciplines, and every discipline is a BO5. If the Lower Bracket finalist wins, a complete bracket-reset series is played.
  6. Stage and interruptionsRandom stage selection is mandatory. An unauthorized pause or disconnect forfeits the current game unless an administrator confirms a hardware failure.
  7. ReportingThe winner reports the set score, selected discipline and individual finals breakdown. Disputes must be raised before either player leaves the station.
